WHY BEACH VOLLEYBALL

Beach Volleyball is the ideal social sport? Beach Volleyball at Cummings Beach, just five minutes from downtown Stamford and I-95. The Stamford Recreation Division will offer leagues that consist of teams of 4 and teams of 6. Divisions include Recreational, Intermediate and Competitive. We will set up anywhere from 4-6 beach courts, in the evening after work, a large patio with restrooms and changing areaWe will have a Beach Volleyball Coordinator on-site facilitating the games and maintaining the courts. All players are responsible for calling their own fouls and managing the game. There is plenty of opportunity to meet other players on and off the court.   It will be a great inexpensive recreational opportunity. Monday - Thursday will be dedicated to leagues while Friday nights will be drop in for Happy Hour Volleyball

WHO CAN PLAY?

Adults aged 18 and older can join the Beach Volleyball league. All Volleyball divisions are co-ed and self-officiated. The levels offered for the 6's division includes Recreational which is for newer players and the goal is to simply get the ball over the net, it's comparable to Volleyball you would play at a Family Picnic.  We also have a sixes Intermediate level, which is for a wide range of skill levels, and the goal is to get the ball over in three hits. The 4's division is meant for players with a higher level of experience and ability. We will welcome full teams of Open Teams, Industrial Teams and will try to coordinate "Free Agents" so they can form a team.  See below for more info on levels of play.

LEVELS OF PLAY

The Stamford Recreation Division offers levels of play for every athlete, recreational and competitive. We have three different levels so there is something for everyone. If you're not sure what level you are - read the description and guess. If you guess low - you'll be a star. If you guess high - you'll have to improve your game a little.

Recreational, (Rec) - The recreational level is geared towards participants that are just looking to have fun. So you don't know what a bump, set or spike are?  Or, you may not know how to do those...  This is the most basic level that the Stamford Recreation Division offers, you can think of it as the "beginners" level. Participants that play at this level are out to enjoy themselves and not out for the sheer competition of the sport. Most players have not played on an organized team before or have only played for a couple of seasons. This is a great level for beginning teams to start and a great way to begin your team's dynasty.

Intermediate, (Int) - The intermediate level is geared towards participants who are still relatively new to the sport but are seeking a little bit more competition. You can think of it as the "middle of the road" level. Participants that play at this level have a good knowledge of the rules and the game and are ready to become more competitive but are still not all that serious. Most participants at this level have played for a few seasons. This is a great level for those teams that have had success at the recreational level and are now ready to step their game up!

Competitive, (Comp) - The Competitive level is geared towards the participant that has played their respective sport for a large portion of their life and enjoys the sheer competition of the sport. You can think of this level as the "stud or studette" level. You probably have your own volleyball and know background info on Misty May and Kerry Walsh.   Participants at this level should definitely have their game face on and expect a tough game. This is great level for those of you who are in it to win it!
